MUSIC Assessors Training
The Model for Urban Stormwater Improvement Conceptualisation (MUSIC) is in widespread use by developers, consultants and local government across the SEQ region. To date there have been several courses in the use of the model but little guidance on how to assess development applications that contain the results of MUSIC modelling.
This one-day course provides training on how to assess MUSIC models in the development assessment context, including what information is required from applicants, proper formulation of a treatment train approach for developing a WSUD layout, tips and tricks used (whether legitimate or not!) to achieve water quality objectives, and finally, good modelling practice.
This course will be presented by Tony Weber.
By the end of this course participants will:
- Be familiar with the use of MUSIC in development assessment.
- Be able to recognise poor WSUD treatment trains and understand the implications of them.
- Be aware of the tips and tricks used by applicants to achieve water quality objectives.
- Be aware of the minimum information requirements for proper submission of MUSIC models.
- Have the ability to provide feedback to applicants regarding submissions containing MUSIC models.
Course content:
The generally content of this course is outlined below. Note that it is often tailored to the experience of participants in each class.
- Developing a Treatment Train – Pathways and Pitfalls
- Good Modelling Practice
- Key Issues in Developing a MUSIC Model
- Sizing and Application of Treatment Measures within MUSIC
- Interpreting MUSIC Outputs
- Discussion of Common Issues with MUSIC Models in DA and Providing Feedback to Applicants
- Case Study
- Discussion of Information Requirements
Who should attend?
To gain the greatest understanding from this course, it is useful for participants to have undertaken formal MUSIC training as conducted by the eWater Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) or the former CRC for Catchment Hydrology. However those with a minor amount of experience with the MUSIC model will still find this course beneficial.
