Course Outline
This one-day course provides training on the fundamentals of bioretention system design to enable better design and assessment. The course compliments the “Water Sensitive Urban Design Technical Design Guidelines for South East Queensland” (South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership, Version 1 June 2006) and covers recent advancements since publication of the guidelines. A field trip to a bioretention system will take place in the afternoon.
Key Learnings
- Be familiar with the design method for bioretention systems detailed in the “Water Sensitive Urban Design Technical Design Guidelines for South East Queensland”.
- Have an appreciation of the science behind why and how bioretention systems work.
- Be aware of urban design principles for bioretention systems.
- Be aware of the major risk considerations when designing and constructing a bioretention system, and how to address these.
Who should attend?
The course will assist practitioners seeking a working understanding of bioretention system processes and design issues. Knowledge of bioretention systems is not a prerequisite.
Presenters
The course will be presented by Shaun Leinster (Design Flow) and Alan Hoban (SEQ Healthy Waterways Partnership).
