Finalist: Sustainable Water Management Award
In 2015, Seqwater invested $600,000 to reduce sediment pollution by stabilising a mass erosion site on the Mid-Brisbane River.
The site was chosen to launch the Resilient Rivers Initiative, generating significant publicity about the project across South East Queensland and raising public awareness about the link between waterway condition and the region’s water supply. The project has become a key demonstration site for over 60 university students to learn about catchment health, the impact of human activity and the efforts being made to address impacts on river systems.
The program also developed significant social capital for the protection of the Mid-Brisbane River by bringing multiple organisations, youth and landowners together to raise awareness of the issues in the River and the ongoing program of works.
