2016 Winner: Waterway Champion Award
As an avid recreational diver, Kelly Fletcher has removed between 50 to 60 kg of rubbish each week from coastal waterways through diving cleanup activities.
In 2015, Kelly organised groups of divers to undertake litter collection challenges and cleanup activities to clear rocks of excess litter, fishing waste and garbage. Kelly's work allows soft corals and seagrass the chance to regenerate while lowering the risk of marine animals becoming entangled in or consuming marine debris.
Kelly is passionate about raising awareness on the issue of marine debris and works weekly to educate people and engage them in conversation about the problem. She has already begun planning some larger diving cleanup events with the help of her regular volunteers.
