Advanced Stormwater Wetland Design
This “hands on”, one-day course will build upon your existing knowledge and understanding of constructed stormwater wetland processes and design to aid you in developing solutions for a range of challenging site conditions, design objectives and poorly functioning wetland systems.
During the day you will actively learn through designing key components of a stormwater wetland as part of a multi-disciplinary design team guided by leading industry experts.
The course is presented by Dr Peter Breen and Sally Boer.
By the end of this course participants will:
- Be aware of the urban design principles that influence the design of stormwater wetlands.
- Have a strong understanding of the science behind wetlands and be able to apply this knowledge to appropriately design wetlands for stormwater management.
- Basic identification of different local native wetland plants and basic plant botany.
- Have an advanced understanding of botanic design required under different hydrologic regimes.
- Be able to use past experience and advanced knowledge of wetlands to design systems for a range of challenging site conditions and design objectives.
- Ability to apply advanced design knowledge and experience to adaptively manage existing wetlands.
Course content
- Refresher of wetland design
- Advanced wetland design considerations
- Design Sessions – participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to design key components of a constructed stormwater wetland.
- Group presentations and discussion of design
- Adaptive management
Who should attend?
This course will assist practitioners who have a basic understanding of how stormwater wetlands work and have some experience in their design or assessment. Participants should have attended the Fundamentals of Stormwater Wetland Design course.
